The one you uploaded to YouTube of Dolphin sounds like a mash-up and not really recognisable as traditional except for some elements in there.
Cheers for the comments my friend I value all comments on my playing as it helps me improve and we can all get better and better, so can I take it from this that im from my point of view bang on the money let me try and explain a little about why I love trad styles and please dont take this as a rant as it aint ment to be just where im trying to come from like wise men from the east bearing gifts I only got gold left as I smoked the frank and mer LOL.
Im trying to emulate the overall style of playing and make it as people in the music industry tell everyone to make it your own.
I wouldnt like to copy any style directly as I like to freestyle and work on my playing from the way that people like Jeremy Cloake, Ben Hicks and others seem to be getting at about taking Ylongu styles and making them your own (as I imagine someone aboriginal would do from a different clan when it comes to ceromoney and telling stories the colective dreaming side of things etc).
I do this as just simply copying is plajerism, and I think a bit of a cheek as its their story and not mine as a great man once said and could be a bit dis respectful (in my mind) as im not from Arnehm land, not Aboriginal and not even from Oz, and have no image of what say for example the story is all about (this is just a gen point of view and personal to me) as I have never been to the land the story is about or seen the cave or the tree or the rock etc etc that aboriginal story and ceremony refs to (which ever story that is).
I ackin it to writing extracts from say Canterbury tales and ive only been to Canterbury twice (is this making any sence in writing I know what im trying to say and hopefully its coming across that way in a loving kinda way HEE HEE) and defo never met Geoffrey Chaucer ha ha.
basically what im trying to say in a nut shell is that when I play a stick in a trad way im never gonna be a traditional player because the simple fact is im a white european from the northern hemosphere that has the utmost respect for a culture I know very little about but have been exposed to little by little over the years through TV, film and music (thanks rolf and Mr Blanasi).
hence I call it "Tradish" and hope that my playing comes across like that I cross everything inc fingures and toes. dont know if anyone else has this sort of thing floating around in their heads if they do let me know or I might feel very very silly otherwise.
Ta for listening never really shared that with anyone about my trad didge playing before really
and im gonna try and do at some point just for Guan some higher pitched mago when I get a spare min but may not be for a while (its us brits we just love it deep (mago that is).
and nice pieces Paul
