Best for me is during july-september. I need time to prepare this trip, and especially working time to have enough money and some holidays (I just begin a new job)!

Hi Anthony,

Everything is ok, the change in date is only because the cruiser is available from the 18-22 May and not during the earlier date. All the Gurruwiwis are well, no bad news!

Are you coming to Australia again this year?

Guan

Sorry Guan my last post was maybe not very clear. I was thinking about the second masterclass during 2009, so not the one you spoke about in May but the other one previously announced in july-september. Remember?
And yes I'd like to visit top end this year. Not 'again', it will be the first time.

Cheers

Hi Anthony,

There is no date confirmed for the 2nd Masterclass in 2009 but will keep everyone posted. July-September is still the best time I reckon.

Hope to see you in Oz for the first time!

Guan

All places filled for the Masterclass in May!

I'd like to do a poll for remaining people interested in participating in other Masterclass(es) later in the year to determine what is the best time, more later...

I would love to know if there will be one in 2010? I would love to attend this year but my wife and I just bought a house, so no can do on that front! I know it's a fair way off, but what do you think?

Hi Ben,

We should be having more Masterclasses in the future, 2010 included. Keep an eye on this Forum for announcements...

Cheers,

Guan

Before 2010, a second time in 2009 yeah !

I would say the best is to go there as soon as possible. Yolngu legends are not really young; but yes I don't have a house to payback...

good day to all

Hi Ben,

It hasn't been advertised yet and no date has been set, however, there have been some people expressing interest in a Masterclass in the 2nd half of the year. Will let the Forum know when there is more info.

Hi everyone!

I've been to the masterclass 2008. Guan asked me to write a little bit about this week.

I expected a week full of music, lessons or dances and I have to say it was more than that. There were a lot of other activities you could join, like making spears, cutting trees for yidakis, going fishing, watching live football games, art gallerys, storytelling etc.. Besides of traditional food -which was very tasty and completely new for me- there was a lot and excellent food all the time. I didn't expected to eat that much. The campsite was beautiful, right at the beach.

I found it very helpful to be in a group with other participators of the class because you could discuss yidaki issues after lessons and also overcome some language barriers. In a lesson we all mostly sat together and listened to instructions and playing from Djalu. Though it's not quite correct to talk about several lessons, the whole week was a lesson. There was yidaki playing all the time. Even if you had to go to the toilet, you still could hear yidaki playing. There were very good players at the campsite almost round the clock. It was very motivating for me to see that also all the players had a lot of fun teaching us yidaki.

The highlights were always the ceremonys with traditional music and dancing. I think is this kind of music which is hard to capture on a CD. I've never seen and heard it live before. It's fantastic to hear the yidaki in the full context with singing an dancing.

There would be so much more to tell...hope there will be another masterclass soon...it's a lot of fun and I've meet a lot of good people.

Greetings
Beni
